Boasting Nikon's fully multicoated optical system and innovative adjustment technologies, the tried-and-trusted ProStaff 3-9x40 riflescope offers a superior hunting performance at a price that fits into the budget of virtually any hunter. The scope's optical system transmits up to 98 percent of available light, ensuring maximum brightness from dawn to dusk. To simplify field adjustments, Nikon also integrated a zero-reset turret into the riflescope. Just sight in as usual, lift the spring-loaded adjustment knob, rotate to your "zero," and re-engage. Field adjustments are now as simple as dialing in your subsequent ranges.
Nothing boosts a shooter's level of confidence better than generous, constant eye relief, which is why Nikon provided 3.6 inches of eye relief in the ProStaff. No more rough kickback from heavy recoiling cartridges, lightweight rifles, severe shooting angles, and just plain excitement. Other features include a Nikoplex reticle; a nitrogen-filled, O-ring-sealed housing that's waterproof and fogproof; support for an optional sunshade accessory for bright, rainy, or dusty conditions; and a quick-focus eyepiece. Offering enough power for the longest shots and a wide field of view for thick brush or timber, the ProStaff riflescope carries a lifetime warranty.
The ProStaff riflescope includes a Nikoplex reticle.

Fox asked NEED HELP!?!?! PLEASE!!?
Hello, i want to buy a good scope for a .22, and I ALSO want it to fit a 12 gauge shot gun (in case I decide to switch it)... I am down to two choices the Nikon Prostaff 2-7X32 or the 3-9X40 version. I heard the bigger the optical, the better...But I also heard the more eye relief is better with the 12guage shotgun (due to the recoil).. Is the 40mm optical noti the .ceably better than the 32mm? Or are they close enough? ALSO is the .3in Eye relief difference between the two scopes, a big deal?(the 32mm optical is 3.8 and the 40mm is 3.6)..IS it that much or a difference? .3inches? BOTH scopes are around the same price, Which would you choose, that is compatible with both guns? http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=170393967307&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=230389287736&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT WHICH ONE? I REALLY NEED TO ORDER TONIGHT!!!!!!!!
And got the following answer:
The larger objective will let more light in the scope. A shotgun scope has to be built to handle the recoil of a shotgun and as you can see, it really doesn't have longer eye relief. Handgun scopes truly have longer eye relief and are sometimes used on shot guns or rifles mounted forward of the action in what is called a scout rifle configuration. The one thing you want to be sure of on a rimfire is the focus distance since many scopes don't focus well under 100 yards and rimfire scopes are designed to focus properly at closer ranges. I would suggest you go directly to the nikon website and review the scopes before making a decision.
